Everything You Need for the Perfect Ballet Bun

DSC_5221.jpg

A properly done ballet bun is an essential part of a productive class. As a ballet student, I had very strict rules for proper ballet class hair. Keeping hair away from the face isn't just an issue of convenience, it's also essential for a safe class. Ballet requires dancers to do turns and having their vision impaired by hair hitting them in the eyes can cause them to lose balance.

I'm going to share some of my ballet class hair essential with you guys, in case your ballet bun still needs help.

Bobby Pins

One of the most important tool for proper ballet hair is the bobby pin. These bobby pins have a good grip and are able to keep the flyaway hairs down through the hardest jumps combinations. For a neater look, try matching the color of the bobby pins to your hair color.

Hair Elastics

Great hair elastics are necessary for keeping long hair away from the face during any type of exercise. In ballet, it's more significant because the class involves turns and having vision obstructed by hair isn't just annoying but also dangerous. Here is a link to some hair elastics that I think are great.

Hair Pins

Hairpins are the tool that keeps the ballet bun in place. If ballet is your exercise of choice, having too many hairpins is impossible. They vary in length, with longer hair pins working better for longer/thicker hair and shorter hairpins being the ideal choice for shorter/finer hair.

Hair Nets

Hair nets are essential if you're looking to have a perfect ballet bun that lasts all day and keeps flyaways from popping up. Here are two options for hair nets that will be perfect for a long day of ballet classes.

Hair Bun Maker Kit

If you're looking for an all in one kit for ballet buns, here are a few options that I think would work. These kits come with Bun Donut, bands, and hairpins, in kits that fully match the hair color.

Hairspray

The final touch to every slicked back hairstyle is a generous dose of hairspray. It's essential in making every last hair stay in place all day long, particularly during performance days. Here are some extra-strong hold hairsprays that I think are perfect for dancers.
